Day 29

Day 29 on the Island and it is the last day in 2009, which was a pretty good year for me and my humans. Captain ran a lot (even outside the Island) and my Papa was a big support to her. Even I went out to see her run sometimes. Papa ran some too and ate more fish all year (Captain said this was some sort of resolution that humans make each year and it is rare to keep). As for me, well I just enjoyed my humans and tried really hard to act less like a puppy and went through almost all of my teen years during 2009.

The last day of 2009 was exhausting here on the Island. We did our am tour, but the Captain sounded funny and acted like she didn't feel well. She kept blowing her nose on these yummy pieces of tissue like paper that I wish she'd put in my bowl instead of the trash--I love tissue. Sometimes I would try and lick the stuff from her nose instead and she would laugh and push me away. She said she guessed someone on the airplane gave it to her. I don't understand why someone would give something like this to someone else, that is mean. I was very protective of Captain since she didn't feel well and barked a lot to warn the people I heard outside that I was here, but sometimes after I barked I got nervous and went and hid by Captain whimpering.
Later in the day our friend Kathey, she loves me by the way, came over and her and Captain went outside for a while. They came back smelly and all covered in white stuff. YAY! The white stuff was here again. They went outside and played with me and then the Captain let me play with Cooper and little Ely across the street. I showed them some of my new toys from Santa and we all played with them. Once, I didn't see where I was going and ran sliding headfirst into the back of a car--it hurt my head. I wonder if one of those tissues would help it feel better?

Captain stayed in with me tonight since she didn't feel good. She was supposed to go with friends, but they run too and have three long races next weekend so she didn't want to make their noses run too. I was really glad she stayed with me. She cooked food that smelled really good and made us both sneeze when she ate it, she called it chickpea curry and said it would help her head. Then, she made me cookies, wonderful cookies that were a little different than usual. I think her nose might have dripped into the mix, but I don't mind. She let me lick this yummy bowl that had some of the goodness in it, she called it almond butter. I laid on my bed with all my toys and licked it clean. Ahhh, I hope 2010 is just like this--good toys, good food, and lots of fun white stuff to play in outside!

P.S. Captain also said that laying by the fire and looking at the tree that wears the skirt and tons of earings would be a great way to end the year but that we couldn't tell Papa we started the fire--shhhh I won't tell, but I LOVED laying next to her by it.

Day 28

I love Christmas, I wish everyday were Christmas. Finally, I got to open my presents with my Papa on the box thing and the Captain. I swore they just kept pulling stuff out of that box and it was great. My squacky Henrietta, Earl, a new black thing that is hard to chew and bounces all over, a little blue ball with ears, lots of bags for the Captain's experiments (not really a gift for me in my opinion), and this wonderful big bone filled with tasty meat stuff in the middle. I spread them all out on the carpet and went from toy to toy while the Captain worked on the box all day. I stopped to play in the park with Mia but was eager to get home to my toys which the Captain had tossed all in one big pile on my bed. I realized that something was missing though and ran upstairs to the door I knew there were presents behind. The Captain laughed and followed me. This time she, finally, opened the door and let me have two more presents--a new tennis ball with a nice big knot thing tied to it that is all red and green and my favorite toy besides my bone and another bone! When I leave it somewhere, I quickly remember and race around the house to find it and carry it with me. I love toys and bones, love them, love them, love them. Instead of my usual nap I laid on my bed and tried to get the meaty stuff out of my bone for hours. Captain had to put me in my metal house area and leave for a while just so I could get some rest.

Oh yeah, Captain and Papa opened gifts too. Papa liked his presents, especially the coffee, and the Captain was thrilled with movies and paw coverings that Papa said would make her go fast. My Captain sure likes to run fast around the Island, even when it is really cold outside like today.

Day 27

I got in trouble with the Captain again. I can't help it that I miss her so much when she leaves and that I am worried she won't come back again. It makes me anxious, she called it separation anxiety. I had two walks with the ferry drivers in the bitter cold air and wind and played hard with friends. They left the door to my metal house open again and this time I pulled the Captain's cloth paw coverings she wears around the house down and tossed them around in the air and took the rectangular carpet-like things by the door and tossed them around too. I was only out for 15 minutes when the Captain came home and caught me. She was not happy and before she left again she made sure the metal door was closed, twice. When she came back again, this time I swear her hair was shorter, I had chewed up the blanket in my house. Oh, she was not happy with me and asked why I was being so bad. She could tell I was upset that she left so after we ate dinner (hers smelled much better than mine and she ate it with these funny sticks and kept saying "yum, I love little raw fishes") she sat with me on the floor and watched the big TV. I threw myself in her lap and rolled around on my back for her to rub my belly the way my Papa does, but she lectured me while she rubbed my belly--it is not as fun this way.

She tortured me too. I know I smell presents and goodness coming out of the closet upstairs and that it is not the usual smell of the Captain's paw coverings. I kept running up there and sticking my paw and nose in the door, but Captain said no. I know Christmas is over, I mean I did help Santa after all, but the Captain said I have to wait and open them in front of Papa. I don't know why we can't just call him on that box thing now--who cares what time of night it is in Iraq? It is present time here!

Day 26

The ferry drivers told me that my Captain was coming home today and I looked at them like I was asking "really?" and got excited. Just before I was about to go home though, I got to stay with Nesta a while longer. The Captain's ferry that somehow flies in the air, Santa must lend out the other reindeer or something to make these ferrys fly, was delayed. When she did come home, she rushed through the door and we danced and kissed and she rubbed my belly. I kept going to the door as if someone else were supposed to come home with the Captain, but she told me my Papa was still away. She told me how much she missed me and that she really worked hard to get home to me. She said she told a rented ferry driver, she called it a taxi, to "step on it Boston style" to get her to the long ferry that runs on two tracks. She said she made it in 11 minutes from the flying ferry to the tracked ferry place and then ran with all her Christmas presents and clothes to get onto the ferry to get to me. Thank goodness she made it so I didn't have to wait another hour for her.

When I was giving her the wet noses she likes better than licks, she told me I was a good boy and that she hoped I was good with the ferry drivers, Nesta, and kitty. I told her I was very good and shared stories with her about my Christmas vacation. I told her how kitty, an odd looking four legged creature clearly different than my kind, did not like it when I licked her ear and how it swatted at me. My feelings were hurt and I wanted my Captain to make me feel better but instead I followed kitty around to make sure she was okay and didn't let her out of my sight. I proudly told her how I helped the ferry drivers clean up their Christmas packages by picking up boxes in my mouth and taking them from the living room into the kitchen. I offered to do this for her too.

Even though I slept almost all day Sunday, I was really tired tonight. We opened the presents from Nesta (see photo) and I played with the squeaky pig while the Captain unpacked her presents and ate her dinner. Then, I ate a yummy pig ear and some of the cookies that Nesta made me while the Captain rested on the comfortable place where I am not allowed. I quickly fell asleep and started snoring, dreaming of days when my Captain and my papa were here with me and wishing my Nesta were too.

Day 25

I am still recovering from my long journey with Santa and am eager for my Captain to return. I bet she is eager to see me too. I hear it snowed where she is and that she didn't have as much fun playing in the white fluffy stuff as she does with me at home. I think they are slower to move the white stuff off the streets on that Island. Besides playing in the white stuff with her, I really miss Captain's cuddles and the songs she sings me at night before I fall asleep. I do love cuddling with Nesta too and the ferry drivers let me get up on all this comfortable furniture for two legged beasts, but I miss my Captain. I wonder if there is any way she would let Nesta come home with me. The ferry drivers would likely miss her, but maybe we could take turns at each other's house or something, I hear some two-legged families do that sort of thing. I am also eager to get under that tree that wears the skirt and open the presents that the Captain still has for me. I hope she'll let me see my Papa on that box thing and watch him open the presents Santa and I left for him--I left him a note that he had to wait for me. I hope he gives the peanut butter cookies Captain makes for me with the little doggie he met. Oh, maybe she'll make me some more of those too--I gave all of my cookies to Nesta for Christmas. Anything for her kisses, anything.

Day 24

It appears that Christmas really doesn't last just one day. Last night we visited with the ferry drivers family and I got this yummy stuff in my dinner that was all meaty and juicy, Yana called it steak. I was in heaven. I also met these little fluffy dogs with poofs on their tails and a little human that was only about 3 months old. I was very good with this little baby and while the humans were celebrating and making rukus, Nesta and I snuck off to cuddle together by the fire. It was such a nice night with my lady.

All this excitement and I needed a break. The ferry drivers took me back to my house so I could investigate the house and rest some. After a long peaceful nap, Nesta came over with a ferry driver and we went and played with some very energetic friends. Then, we went back to Nesta's house and layed around and had treats and more presents while the ferry drivers watched the television and ate bowls full of this white fluffy stuff that made poping noises when they were cooking it. I think the Captain likes that stuff too. I hope she comes back soon, but hope Nesta can come home with me too.

Day 23

Christmas Day! Whew, are my legs tired from all the traveling last night. I saw so many amazing places and even flew over my Papa and the Captain. I wish I could have stopped and given my papa a huge hug and kiss, and so he could rub my belly, but Santa said we couldn't stope for even a second because we wouldn't be able to get all the children their presents. Alas, duty calls and I lead a hard life as a reindeer. Santa thanked me for joining the team, he said we made record time with my strong legs, and dropped me back off at the ferry drivers home where my Nesta was anxiously awaiting my return and her gifts from Santa of course. I think I have to wait to get my gifts from Santa because we dropped them off at my house and the Captain wants me to open them with Papa and that box thing he talks to me through. I know Nesta was disappointed that I was not there to snuggle with her on Christmas Eve, but if my Papa and the Captain can survive--Nesta and I can too. Even though my legs were so tired, I went out and played in the fluffy white stuff with her and nuzzled her neck in the snow. Luckily, she also grew tired so we were able to relax the rest of the day. We even snuggled together with Dan the ferry driver. Ahh, Merry Christmas everyone.

Day 22

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the Island not a creature was stirring because they were all in bed. The captain was off with family and friends and I was snuggled down with my Nesta by my side and peanut butter treats in my head. Then all of a sudden I awoke to a jangle. It was Mrs. Clause on the phone and Santa was in a tangle. Prancer it appears had pranced himself lame and Santa needed a strong four-legged-man to join in his game. A little different from a reindeer I may look, but out of his bag some antlers Santa took. With the strength of my legs we bounded away to take toys to the kids so Christmas morning they could play. Around the world we traveled and from rooftop to rooftop we clamoured. There was even a present for my papa in Iraq in Santa's huge sack.

Day 21

It has been three weeks since my papa left me on this Island with the Captain and this morning she ups and leaves me. I knew it when I saw the suitcase. Then she toyed with me and instead of leaving, we went on a tour. As soon as we stepped out of the house, I couldn't believe what happened. The wet stuff we walked through yesterday that was running off the wonderful white flaky stuff and became super slippery. It was pitch black outside and the Captain kept saying "wait" "wait" and I would have to let her catch up. Then it was "wooowww, shit" and we both almost fell down. I think she grumbled something about papa and his turn, but I don't know what she was talking about. I love walking with the Captain now that we go on longer tours more often, just me and her together.

Then, she left me. She put me in my metal house and I cried and cried and howled for her to come back. She broke my heart in two. But then, then the ferry driver Yana came and took me to play at Mack Park twice. I love playing with these round disk things they throw in the air and today, I even took turns sharing it with Mia, the box shaped woman I play with a lot. Yana took me to my Nesta's house afterward where they said I would stay while the Captain was away. I was so tired I just layed on the couch with Nesta and didn't even care when it was dinner time. I hope we get to play in the snow a bunch and cuddle by the tree that wears the skirt--they have one in their house too (I really don't get it).

Day 20

I liked getting that present from under the tree last night so much that today I kept taking my toys and tossing them onto the blanket thing under the tree. The Captain called this a skirt, but trees don't wear skirts, even I know that!

There were no ferry drivers today, just me and the Captain. I think she felt bad because she forgot she told them not to come, so she spent lots of extra time with me. We went on four long tours and I found a new fun way to inspect the Island. Some places on the Island have moved the great white stuff into large piles and we can walk in between the walls of snow. Other places, the Captain refers to these houses as jerks, don't move the snow and we just walk right through it. The Captain laughs and sometimes ends up to her waist in snow and I have chosen to leep like the deer animals I have seen on the television screen. We even went to where the diamond shaped grassy area is, but it had been replaced with a huge area of white stuff that no-one had even walked in. The Captain let me run around in it--I was so happy. I just kept leeping up to see if I could jump over the white stuff and I would fill my mouth with its wet goodness!

Day 19

I am torn today with helping the Captain with her experiment collecting my poo in bags and playing in the snow. My solution to this dilemma was to climb into the big snow banks and poo there. The Captain ended up with snow up to here thighs and a large collection for her experiment. I am pleased with myself, but am confused that she didn't seem as happy.

I was really good after the ferry driver Dan left and kept my door open (I love it when he does that) for 5 hours. When the Captain got home we went for a tour and then she sat by that tree that makes her happy petting me and just looking at the tree (really Captain--it is not going to move). Suddenly she jumped up and said "I know, we need some Christmas spirit." She brought out a bag that smelled really good and let me have an early present--a liver flavored bone! I love Christmas and this white stuff! She called me spoiled, I don't know what that means but if it has anything to do with liver or white stuff, I don't care.

Day 18

It came, it came, the beautiful white stuff came. We went out before the sun came up and the ground was glowing with whiteness all the way up to my belly. The Captain put on her puffy clothes and fake fur paw coverings and pushed the white stuff around with a stick thing. I kept running around and diving into the big mounds hiding from the Captain and eat up the goodness, literally. She just laughed and used the stick to throw white stuff on me. At one point my entire face was covered in it. Oddly, she put these big things over her bottom paws, snoe shoes she called them, and ran around on the snow squeeling. I think she loves the white stuff as much as I do. While she was running around, I went on adventure and found this big orange ball in the bushes that I could barely hold onto.

I stayed in my house for a while so the Captain could go out on an adventure in her wierd snow shoes. nI think she had a good time, but I sure wish I could have gone with her. She sure came back awfully excited and happy and said maybe I could come next time. She was shivering and got in that tub thing again. She let me eat some of these yummy bubbles that were surrounding her, they were growing so fast I think I might have saved her life.

Later, the Captain cleaned out a cabinet again and threw a ton of paper stuff away. She told me stories about her and my papa while she sorted through some stuff. Their wedding day sounded really nice and she showed me a funny picture of my Papa and a baby elephant. I think they like each other the way I like my beautiful Nesta.

Finally, she took me out and let me play in the white stuff again. This time she even got my four legged friend from next door, Cooper, to come and play with me. We played tug of war with a round circular disk that the Captain kept throwing for us. She got it stuck in one of the bushy green trees, but I lept into the air and snatched it back for her, only I wouldn't let her have it really--serves her right for throwing so bad.

Day 17

Today my duty on the Island was guard dog. Some man came to the door multiple times and talked to the Captain, but I didn't know if I liked him or not. He made a lot of banging and sawing noises. Everytime he opened the door I charged down the stairs and stood barking in my most fierce voice. The Captain said I was making her ears bleed and the man asked nervously about the strength of the gate. The Captain put two of those wooden and mesh things up on the stairs keeping me from escorting the man out with my teeth, still I watched everything he did from the top of the stairs for hours. I would not let him get to the Captain.

After I inspected the area where that man was working and toured the Island, the Captain went out for a while. She came back with bags and would not let me in them even though I could smell something good. She said I would ruin Christmas if I got into them and was a typical little Jaynes boy, whatever that means. She also said that the blue warning lights on the Island were going off and that it means that fun white stuff is coming--I can't wait to play in it again.

Day 16

There was a lot of noise and lights on our tour. The air smelled funny too and these men were on huge sticks up in the air, Captain called them ladders, at a house we usually go by on the tour. While I did eat some frozen stuff off the ground when ferryman Dan walked me, I also stayed out of trouble when he left my metal house door open. I waited and waited for he Captain and started to think she wouldn't come home. Ferry leader Yana fed me and shut the door to my house until FINALLY the Captain came home and rubbed my belly while she layed on the comfy couch. I don't mind though because she really doesn't seem as comfy as I would be, she has short little arms and has to reach far with her paws to get to my belly.

Thursday, December 17, 2009

Day 15

We once again woke to the sound of strong wind banging against the windows and this time the sound of the power clicking on and off. The usual pre-dawn tour took place in the coldest air I have ever felt (13 degrees and windchill of -8). The Captain wrapped some colored blanket thing around her head and face, dawned her paw coverings with the fur at the top (I don't know why she doesn't grow her own), and off we went. I determined that this Island is located somewhere in the arctic. The Captain left for a while only to surprisingly return and spend the day with me--it was great, well except she put this girly thing on my neck instead of my cool bandana. I kept bringing her a toy I found with long floppy ears and a bushy tail, she calls it a rabbit. I love to suck on its tail while Captain talks on the phone and types on that box thing. I now must rest and pull myself into the tighest ball I can to keep warm and cozy--maybe I'll stay here in this ball until my Papa comes home and it is warm.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Day 14

Two weeks I have been on this Island now, just 24 weeks to go and so many adventures left I hope. The weather turned bitter cold today and the wind just cut right through my fur. I still had fun with my friends and went out twice with the ferry drivers, once with a large pack of us furry walk-on-all-fours-smarter-beings and then once with a little pug-nosed fellow four legged creature. The tall male ferry driver that I mind so well, Dan, wished he had a picture of me and the little guy walking around together. He left the gate to my house open when he left after my second tour. Just in case it was a test, I was super good and slept on my bed or in my house. When the Captain came home I didn't even bark and greeted her all sleepy eyed. We danced around for a bit, I think I passed the test, and then I helped her with some secret projects. I think they have something to do with that tree she loves so much.

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Day 13

The Captain was upset with me today. She left me in my metal crate and then the ferry drivers came and took me on a tour and to a huge green grassy area with Mia like normal. But, when they left, they didn't shut my metal door, I think the Captain must have told them this was okay. The wooden barrier was on the stairs, but the one into my papa's favorite room was gone. I saw the fuzzy blue blanket the Captain likes on the big rectangular thing and decided it looked much nicer than my round bed for resting. There were noises outside the window and I moved around the rectangle barking and protecting the house. When the Captain got home, she somehow knew all this (I really don't know how, I think she has magical powers), but she was upset with me. Worse, she said she was "disappointed" in me. She told me that she should have put the gate up and it was her fault too, but she was mad that I didn't stay on my round bed. Is she nuts? Why doesn't she lay on the round bed? Tonight before we went to bed she put the wooden thing up. Tomorrow, maybe I'll think of a different way to get into that room so that she won't be able to use her powers.

Monday, December 14, 2009

Day 12

I think the Captain tried something new today. When she left for work, she put up these loud wooden things with plastic that I could see through but not walk through blocking me in an area around my metal mini-house with a bed and my water. BUT, she forgot to close my house door when I went in. Silly Captain. After the ferry driver left, I waited for her to come home. I got a little impatient, so I played with the rug in front of the door, I didn't hurt it but I hid my bone under it and tossed it around.

We toured a long part of the island tonight and I carried in these paper things from the box outside and gave them to the Captain in exchange for a cookie. The Captain left for a while, this time remembering to close the door to my metal house. I was kindof sad, but when she came back, I brought her my toys and she played with me and then layed down with me while we both watched the television for a little while.

Sunday, December 13, 2009

Day 11

Today we entered the double digit days on the Island without my Papa. The Captain and I went on a longer island tour than usual this am and then I had a wonderful surprise--Nesta, the most beautiful grey woman from the island, came over and stayed with us for over 3 hours. It was heaven! The Captain walked us to the park where we played and played. The whole way there we leaned in to one another and snuck kisses and nosed each other, I think the captain saw us but she didn't say anything. When we got home we played more but the Captain would make us sit next to her if we got too excited.

Once Nesta took the ferry home, I rested in my metal house ( even though the door was open) while the Captain went out on a faster tour of the island muttering things about tempo, watch, and rain coming. She must be able to predict the weather because it is raining hard again. I don't mind the sprinkles, but these cold big rain drops chill me and I dart about when the Captain takes me outside. The streets are flooding and I don't like getting my paws wet. I like it much better when it is the big white flakes falling from the sky. I am really tired from my big day, so I am just going to lay on the rectangular leather bed next to the Captain for a while.

Saturday, December 12, 2009

Day 10

The Captain took me on four walks today. We went out for an hour and a half to that grassy place with the diamond shape in the middle. She tossed a ball for me, it was fun but I kept getting distracted with how yummy the grass tasted. Then, in the dirt diamond part, I found this rubber mound in the middle and decided to dig at it. The rubber part came right up and I ran and ran and ran around with it. The Captain kept laughing and calling me a base stealer. Finally she made me give it to her and she put it back, she said I was a strong boy because it was really heavy. I guess that mound was heavy because after I carried my ball all the way home I passed out on the floor while the Captain cleaned and took everything out of a cabinet and then put some of it back. She just kept saying "papa will never know this is gone."

Day 9

When the Captain got home tonight we had our date night: a long walk, nice dinner, a pedicure, a rub down, and a movie with snacks. She was running a little late, as these females often are (yes, even the Captain). We took a long tour of the island even though she complained of numb paws and wrapped some thing all around her head. When we got home she gave me some cookies in with my food and we had dinner together. I don't know why it takes her so much longer than me to eat. After dinner, we cuddled some and looked at the pretty lighted tree that smells good. Then, she took me upstairs and put this wonderful peanut butter stuff on the side of bathtub and let me lick it while she kept holding my feet and tickling them with this loud thing, she told me it was called a pedicure. When she was done, I just kept trying to lick that good stuff off my face.

Then, we took a bath together and she rubbed me all over with warm towels and this thing that blew hot air on me. I tried to bite it, but it felt funny when I did so I stopped. Then we watched a movie and she let me eat this yummy chew thing that made the house smell bad and she rubbed my belly. Ahhh. She told me I was the perfect date, I let her pick dinner and the movie and didn't udder a word or ever disagree!

Day 8

Finally, the clouds parted and the Captain and I had a nice walk around the Island. I was tired this morning. The Captain kept me up last night, even though I was tired after playing with the sticker book, because my Papa was on the box thing again. I could hear him, he even sang me a song and I think I may have seen his face, but I am not certain--how could he be trapped in that small box. I was so tired I just laid my head in the Captain's lap, she was nice and was on my little round bed with me for a while. She seems sad that Papa is in the box.

I went back to sleep in my metal mini-house while the Captain left and then had a nice playdate with the Mia woman who was here before. The ferry driver Melissa was with her and appeared to be collecting more of my droppings for the experiment. I got tired and she put me back in the mini-house where I waited until the ferry driver Josh came and took me for another walk around the Island. All seems well in the Island, but with all the heavy rain, I believe the neighbor house on the end has had water leaks. I heard the Captain talking about it. Glad it is not my house, it is all I can do to watch the Captain.

The Captain played with me and this wonderful tug of war toy I have. She is not as fun as when I remember playing this game with my Papa so I gave up after a while and instead just layed on it so she couldn't take it from me. She says we have a date tomorrow night and that she will rub my belly and lay on the couch with me--I can't wait!

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Day 7

We awoke to sounds of wind and rain once again driving against the house. 3 out of these 7 days have been cold wet ones, what type of Island is this? Captain seems to have gotten the drift of the Island as she pulled on tall rubber paw protectors, note please that she had none for me, and a slicker thing not even bothering with that nice umbrella I hid under last time--clearly we were facing the storm head and paw first. Oddly, the Island was still covered with small piles of the white stuff which now felt very different under my paws and I climbed atop each pile I could without driving the Captain too crazy.

I do believe the Captain is performing experiments on the Island. Even in the driving rain she follows me with bags on her front paws and collects my droppings. It seems she needs these droppings for something, so I tried to help by leaving her more and more. Hmmm, I do not understand, but she did not thank me as I expected. She did make up for this by wiping me with a large towel, it felt sooo good, I rolled around on my back and let out grumbles of pleasure while she rubbed my soaking head and belly.

I enjoyed playing in the rain when the ferry drivers came for me today. The Captain returned later than usual and only took me on a short tour before going to some place where she always comes home smelling and wet. While she was gone, I found a book that was filled with gummy goodness, apparently called a sticker book, and played with it turning the pages with my teeth and really getting into the story. The Captain returned and was stern. She said I ate some poor Island child's Christmas present. I hope she doesn't give him one of mine.

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Day 6

Captain kept me up throughout the night with her waking and some little glowing light coming from her large plush bed. (I did try to bribe her with my eyes last night and batted my lashes with my head on the bed, but she instructed me to my round bed--I determined it was best to snore loudly and push against the bed with all my weight in retort to her cruelty hopefully adding to her inability to sleep). Then, she woke before the dawn and took me on a quick tour of the Island before placing me into a metal box with only a flat blanket to rest on. Good thing I was tired.

Later in the day, I was greeted by one of the ferry drivers named Yana, while small I believe this woman is the lead woman ferry driver, who brought a beautiful woman to see me. This woman was not from the part of the Island the beautiful grey women live, but was more of a tan color with white and a more box-like figure, they called her Mia. We ran in the diamond shaped park that is now covered in the white powder. Along the walk we ran into another ferry driver, called Melissa, this one has two young ferry drivers with her often which she appears to be training. They kept telling us to sit and stay and capture my image with some boxlike thing. I got to hang out with these ferry women for two hours and was in heaven. Then, ferry driver Melissa came back with her trainees and took me to the park with the hard squares in the ground and the plowed path walkways and all the trees. Her little trainees wanted me to appear in what she called a "family Christmas photo", but I never saw the box like thing this time so I don't think they did it.

Day 5

The Captain woke me from my slumber early today, before the sun was even up. I was sore and tired from my secret adventures with Nesta yesterday and had slept on the first floor closer to the door, but was eager for an adventure this am. We toured a large part of the Island and traveled faster than usual. I decided the best way to slow the Captain down was to poop numerous times. The ice was slick and I slid several times despite the Captain's warnings. It was really pretty watching the sun come up with the Captain, even if it was rather fridgid. The Captain let me walk a couple of times but told me at the end we had traveled 2 miles.

During the day the people who drove the ferry to the grey woman part of the Island returned and this time took me on a tour of the Island. Unfortunately Nesta, my love, was not with the ferryman. The Captain's note said that I was eating snow and thus didn't go play in some park, but instead just walked with my short furry friend from nearby, Eli.

Tonight, the Captain returned only for a tour of the Island, as promised she walked all the way down the tree lined street and back with me. She then left for two hours and then showed me this weird machine where I heard my papas voice again. I tried to get the voice to come out of the machine to play with me, but he wouldn't. Instead, I chewed on my toy and then layed my head in the Captain's lap to try and soothe her, she thanked me, but I don't think it worked completely.

Day 4

The Captain rose me from a deep slumber very early in the am (4:45 to be precise). I quickly got over it when I got to play a little outside in the snow. I love the snow. Some dogs are distracted by squirrels but I think I prefer this wonderful snow. She fed me and again let me have mostly free territory to watch over and walk around the house while she was gone. I rested until I was picked up and taken upon a ship to another part of the island where the beautiful grey women live. I played with Nesta in the snow and took the 4:15 return ferry. When I got back the Captain was vacuuming and unpacking a ton of boxes so I just went and layed on the second floor in my favorite spot watching over her. I was too tired to follow her around like I have been, but I am sure after she returns from her dinner meeting tonight, I will be rested and can resume my diligent watch.

P.S. I have been hearing things a little more around the island than usual, so I have been rushing to windows and standing at the top of the stairs barking in case it is someone trying to enter the house or see the Captain without my approval. I believe it is working.

Day 3

Otis Log--Day 3

Busy day on the island today. Woke early and heard a familiar voice from the odd machine the Captain sits in front of--the voice was my Papa, but I am still confused as to if it was coming from the machine. The little round thing the Captain kept showing me had something to do with the voice, but I did not fully comprehend.

The Captain then took me on the morning tour of the island, going all the way down this long street filled with trees. The Captain told me today, that we would always walk at least that far, no matter what. I do love the walk and hope the Captain keeps her word. She left for a bit while I rested, free to roam the house, only to return covered in mud and smelling of sweet but full of joy and singing. I was confused when she put her foot coverings in the sink where she sometimes washes carrots for me, but well, she is the Captain and I trust her.

Later in the morning a man came through the house similar to yesterday. I took my tug toy and threw it at his feet. He played with me some but the Captain said something about a rule of only playing on the rug and something about my feet. What is wrong with my feet? I threw the toy at her a lot when he left.

Then, a woman came over by the title of Kerry and I do believe she was carrying a baby human inside her. I could sense it and was especially gentle and good to her. She sat on my favorite resting place, this brown soft leather rectangular bed, and I layed my head near her and then layed on top of the Captain. I don't want her to catch the baby human illness.

After a walk in another cold rain (I believe this is two in three days on the island), I was left to roam the house for several hours while the Captain left. I cannot report what I did while she was gone, but I was good and put the house back in order before she returned. She told me that she was at another island with Anne and Jason and I would see them again soon. She said something about showing them how to put lights on a tree?

Then, when we went out for a final walk around the island, I was surprised to find my favorite white substance covering the ground and my feet! I left for joy. A car entered the island area around the house, but I was calm and greeted the new humans Tai and Kay (or Kim) gently and I do believe they too have fallen in love with me. They have catlike dogs that they call Chiwawas or something-I hear they are good with A-1 sauce. I played and am now longing looking at the large human bed, but the Captain only pets my head and tells me I am loved.

Day 2

Slept horribly on my little round bed. The Captain was up all night checking some rectangular apparatus of hers and moving all around to I had to keep my eyes on her. Once she awoke, we traveled the perimeter of the island and ate. I decided not to test her today returning to my small bed while she showered. I found a teddy bear thing with sand in it's legs and removed it's little hat while she got ready--I think it looks better without the hat but the Captain confiscated the hat before I could taste the fluffy white stuffing inside.

Finally, the Captain left and I was able to rest. I went exploring with my friend Eli and lady friend Mia to the diamond shaped dirt area and ran around. She sure is fast. The captain came home early complaining of a full stomach from a work feast. I am not sure why I was unable to attend, but we took a long walk around the island together instead which I enjoyed and she claimed helped her belly. She sure does talk to me a lot while we walk and pets my head when I am good so I try and do what she seems to want of me.

Later, the Captain allowed strange men into the home who looked at all the rooms and were talking to her. I was good, but went through each room of the house after they left to make sure it was safe. Man, it sure is a lot of work keeping track of her.

Day 1

We woke to a horrendous Nor'ester storm this am. I found myself hunkered down on my round little bed which I seem to be exiled to these next six months. The captain made us rise and enter the storm to use the facilities. I shuddered and tried to stay under the captain's umbrella and rushed to reenter the shelter.
Later in the am I attempted my first test of the Captain. While she was showering, I climbed upon the warm larger Captain's bed and snuggled against the pillows. Alas my comfort only lasted a few minutes as the Captain return and sternly ordered me off, threatening a night outdoors.

Now I will wait out the storm and plan on two adventures back into the outdoors until the Captain returns.
